The Samurai Ghost "The Man Who Sang to Ghosts" By Aaron Shephard
Cricket (June, 2000)
Media: Scratchboard and colored inks
This story is a retelling of "Hoichi the Earless" by Lefcadio
Hearn. While most of the illustrations I did for this piece were
modeled on nineteenth century Japanese woodblock illustrations,
this particular piece took its inspiration from the depiction of
the story of Hoichi in Masaki Kobayaski's "Kwaidan," a film
anthology based on four stories from Hearn's collection of
Japanese ghost tales.
